Why do we focus on the negative?
We are designed to learn better from to bad experiences than the good ones.
We scan for bad experiences.
We focus on bad experiences.
We over react to bad experiences.
And those experiences quickly turn into implicit memories. ( Implicit memory is a type of long-term memory related to the impact that activities and experiences can have on your behavior. You access your implicit memory unconsciously). This is how we survive! But that also means we need to be very intentional about the “good stuff” that happens in our lives.
So what can we do? We can Learn to embody the good.
When you are experimenting something good, notice your body, slow down your breathing, involve your senses, and absorbed the experience as much as possible.
When we s-l-o-w down and absorb the experience mindfully, we are able to keep the good much better in our memory.
